Kitten Care & Common Questions

Please reach us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Both breeds are known for their gentle temperament, but they differ in personality, activity level, and interaction style.

Ragdolls are often described as “puppy-cat.” They are highly affectionate, enjoy following their owners, and tend to seek out attention and physical closeness.

British Shorthairs are typically more calm and independent, but with proper early socialization, they can also be very affectionate and enjoy spending time near their owners in a quieter, more relaxed way.

Choosing between the two often depends on whether you prefer a more interactive companion (Ragdoll) or a calm, easygoing presence (British Shorthair).

Ragdolls are a larger breed and can reach:
• Males: 12–20 lbs
• Females: 10–15 lbs

British Shorthairs are more compact and sturdy:
• Males: 10–16 lbs
• Females: 8–12 lbs

Both breeds develop slowly and typically reach full size around 2–3 years of age.

Confine the kitten to a small area (bathroom, laundryroom) with food, water litter box, bed, and toys. This allows the kitten to know where his/her essentials are and gives him/her a sense of security. You can bring the kitten out as much as you want, but do not put him/her on the floor and expect it to find the way back to the litter box, always return the kitten back to the small area after you are done playing.

After 2-3 days and you think the kitten is adjusting open the door to the small area and allow the kitten to come out and start exploring the house on its own, this way they will hopefully know their way back to their area and litter box. The kittens are fully housebroken when you get them, however if not provided with a litter box or they don't know where to find the litter box, accidents will happen.

sometimes a cat that you already have may be upset by a new kitten. To avoid this try putting a little smear of cologene on your finger and rub it on the bridge of the nose below the eyes, but not on the leather of the nose, you might do this to both pets. At first only allow them together in your presence, after a period of time with no problems would allow them to run together in the house without your presence.

Nulo Freestyle cat/kitten- Please feed only this brand for the first week (I will prepare a bag for you.) If you want to change to another cat food, blend new food with Nulo after one week and gradually increase new food daily until completely on new food. We feed wet food as an assisted food. Watch to see the kitten is eating food and drinking water the first couple of days. If the kitten does not seem interested in eating, then buy a jar of beef or chicken baby food(not cat food- baby food). Mix one teaspoon of dry food with canned food and offer. Generally the baby food have a very strong appealing smell that they just can't resist. Eating and drinking is very important, kittens at this age will dehydrate very quickly.

I free feed at my home and always have dry food available next to the water.

Our kittens are trained on tofu litter. I like it because it is low-dust, easy to manage, and gentle for kittens. By the time they go home, they already know how to use the litter box well. You can continue with the same litter or transition slowly to another type, but I usually recommend keeping things familiar at first to make the adjustment easier.

It is not necessary to bathe your cat. Your cat should groom itself regularly. Regular bath is not required but regular grooming is. I brush my cats regularly.

I trim my cats' nails every 4-6 weeks. I use the basic nail cutter (smaller sizes) that you would use to trim your own children's nails. I will trim your kitten's nails and bath them before they go home.

I offer one month of free Trupanion Pet Medical Insurance. Activation is required by the owner within 24 hours from the purchase date, accessible either by phone at 855-266-2516 or online at trupanion.com using promotional code.

Yes, absolutely. I don’t see adoption as the end of the process. I’m always happy to answer questions after your kitten goes home, whether it’s about food, adjustment, grooming, behavior, or just normal first-time worries. Especially for new cat owners, I want you to feel supported and confident.

All of our kittens are health checked before going home, and I work hard to send them home healthy, strong, and well prepared. That said, moving to a new environment can still be stressful for a young kitten, so I always recommend establishing care with your local veterinarian soon after pickup. If any concerns come up, I want families to reach out so we can talk through what is going on and make sure the kitten gets the right care as quickly as possible.
